Visiting anglers!

Photo 01 - Mr Xxxxx and Mr Xxxxx jnr sorting out our Arran!
Visiting anglers!

We are now asking all visiting anglers to contact our loch keeper if it is your intention to commence fishing on the lochs especially early in the morning or later at night. There are two reasons for this the first being that with the recent poaching events discovered we must be able to inform the authorities if anyone is fishing legally with the required permit.

You will be required to inform our loch keeper of the names of those fishing and the location that you will be fishing. This information will make identification of suspected poachers much easier if they are fishing out with the areas notified. The second reason we are asking visiting anglers to do this is that under the Tweed Protection Order it is an offence to commence fishing without written permission. Our loch keeper may vary this requirement at his discretion> All anglers are expected to co operate with this request. If these actions do not take place we will have to look at the provision of night time fishing!

Rectifying Muppet damage!

In common with most years we have to set aside time to put right the damage caused by unthinking Muppets. And so it was yesterday we began the task of repairing these faults. The big Arran was by far the biggest job having been subjected to repeated trauma along the central rib by being moored inappropriately allowing the central rib to be repeatedly smashed against the rocks.

Unfortunately the damage that confronted us was not suitable for a quick chopped fibre repair rather a total reconstruction of the central rib and new runner was required. Mr Xxxxx our loch keeper and Mr Xxxxx jnr came along to tackle this work. There was much rubbing down, gouging, splitting and tearing of damaged fibreglass to get back to a sound foundation on which the new construction would be made.

Using extra heavy duty fibreglass cloth we layered three heavy layers to give a sturdy construction. Now this in itself was quite a chore since we could only mix up enough resin that would give us ten minutes of working time as any longer saw the resin gelling and seconds later solidifying. Laying, removing air pockets took up over an hour of time and saw our hands set in various positions as the resin set on our gloves.

An interesting point is that we used a most excellent product called J B Weld which is a high strength epoxy resin reinforced with steel to provide mechanical fixing along a couple of cracks. Using a stitch procedure which involves making right angle gouges to the crack finished with a 2mm hole to stitch the crack together. This mechanical fixing is in addition to the very strong fibreglass repair should see this central rib sorted for a good number of years!

Work still to be done is fitting the new one piece runner and sealing the whole rib in two pack epoxy paint. On the Lomond damaged by the three Muppets mentioned a few weeks ago requires the runner refitting after Aaron kindly straightened the damaged item. On our other Lomond the damaged rib walloped by an engine will be filled and reinforced with steel rods and coloured to match the original colour. Yes there is always something needing to be done it’s just a pity most of it is rectifying the damage caused by Muppets!

Power cut!

Yesterday the village saw a power cut in the electricity supply leaving some members of the community in a quandary. It is our policy that during these power cuts we will make our two petrol generators available to members of the community on a first come first served basis.

Rated at 3.5 and 4.0KW they will not power all appliances in a house but with selective switching can run various appliances.  Yesterday we gave out our generators to two individuals in the hope of assisting them through the crisis. If you have need of a generator please get in touch with Mr Xxxxx or Mike at the Whitehouse opposite the village hall and they will do what they can to assist! Unfortunately the power cut also wiped out all mobile phone coverage in the area! I spoke with the people who used our generators today and both were delighted with the performance of the machines! Just part of our policy to help people out whenever we can!

Photo 03 - The new rib under construction!
A pier in waiting!

Yes our proposed pier at the club boat house has been delayed for a further year as the proposed works to the outlet at the foot of St Mary’s loch has been delayed for a year. It would not be prudent to begin this work until we see or can work out what the new parameters are with regard to loch height lest we end up with a dry pier or one that is completely submerged! Some thinking to be done methinks!

A great loss!

We have heard over the last few weeks that the village hall, the meeting place for residents of Cappercleuch may have to close due to lack of use! The hall is a great resource hosting social events, public meetings and serving as accommodation for large parties who are working or holidaying in the area. The last point has huge potential with youth hostels closing everywhere hikers/walkers are always looking for good reasonably priced places to stay. Targeted advertising would be crucial in attracting clientele! As ALDI say “when it’s gone it’s gone”!

The wider world in my view!

A grave error!

You could not have avoided seeing Lord Snooty pompously proclaiming that the recession was over now that the latest growth figures have been released. It is interesting to note that the UKs peers got to the point of attaining pre crash growth many months and in some cases years ago. Also damning Lord Snooty is the fact that the UK population has increased by 2.8 million since 2008!

The service sector has indeed grown but this alone will not sustain a recovery. Manufacturing is down and construction is down! Doubtless many of Snooty’s pals in the city have shrugged off the fact that they caused the economic crash and are now back to their old ways! However ask any working class person if they are feeling the recovery and the answer will be a resounding no!

Yes we the underclass are still seeing declines in our living standards with many more being pushed towards food banks and other charitable aid! This is the real legacy of the Con-Dems keeping the poor in their place in Con-dem society! Already the employment figures myth has been exposed with the 1.2 million new jobs created comprising of 400,00 people on zero hours contracts and 500,00 on poorly paying part time jobs!

Only a fool would be taken in by the latest Con-Dem claims unfortunately there are many in the country. Through their ineptitude the Con-Dems have delayed the recovery by years and there are no signs that they are grasping the severity of the problems facing the population! The bottom line is that they haven’t a clue and are content to blunder on whilst we suffer! With the poor performance of the Labour opposition the only way for us Scots is to go for independence and embrace the future with open arms! If you are fed up of hearing Lord snooty ‘rolling up his sleeves’ to ‘do the right thing’ for the ‘hard-working families’ and hearing of nonstop blundering -

Vote for independence and let’s get shot of these fools!

The slide continues!

I’ve come to view the “High Street” as a barometer of how the country is doing and my recent observations do not paint a rosy picture! I see shopkeepers shuffling to work pasty of pallor and doubtless deficient in vitamin D spending their days in dimly lit back shops never seeing the sun! No vibrancy commensurate with good business and a telling thick tabloid paper with a simple crossword puzzle to get them through the day!

Two further outlets closed in the last month see the street ever deaden! Whitewashed windows offer nothing for sale making a trip to the street a complete waste of time! They say the new rail link will reinvigorate our dying streets, I however cannot see this happening. The rail link is just another white elephant that will merely further burden the taxpayer who will have to subsidise this service until it is closed for good. It’s not looking great, for the “High Street,” the slide continues!

Members take note!

Photo 01 - Jan 2013 just to help you cool down!

Members take note!

Loch keeper mR xXXXX came across a fellow today on the loch who was fishing and when asked if he had a valid permit he said he was a member of the club. After further discussion it transpired that he was a member last year and had arrived down at the loch with £35.00 to renew his membership!

mR xXXXX not being sure what the situation was came over for a blether and we sorted out the situation. Membership runs from January to December every year. Members have the whole month of January to renew their membership which is a decent length of time. In exceptional circumstances we make provision for renewals during the month of February if the renewing member can show evidence of a serious impediment preventing membership renewal in January.

The club needs to know as soon as possible the funds it has in the bank in order to plan the years activities. When we get renewals at random times of the year it causes us problems. So in effect if a member has not renewed before the end of January with the above exceptions then that member is deemed to be a lapsed member no longer a member of the club and if he arrives at the lochside intending to fish he must purchase a day ticket!

In addition as the membership has lapsed the recurring joining fee of £35.00 is no longer applicable and if the lapsed member wishes to rejoin then the new member’s fee of £55.00 is applicable. Now there is no excuse for not knowing this, it is plastered all over our news pages! If the person does not read our news pages and really there is no excuse for not doing so as all libraries have computers for use by the public. Failing that a phone call to an appropriate person will give the required information.

Being a member of a club brings with it a degree of member responsibility in that the member should be astute enough to find out things he does not know and not expect to be spoon fed information. The spoon feeding stops here the above regime will be implemented rigorously with no exceptions! So please take an interest and don’t leave it all to the few willing horses. The bottom line is renew in January or pay the new members fee, it’s that simple.

Photo 02 - Again the bumblers can't resist the Dog Rose!
Our new boat prices!

We have been running with boat prices that are ridiculously low for a good few years now, and the time has come to implement modest and realistic price rises for all our boats/engines. The revenue we have taken from boat hire did not even cover the maintenance of our two 4hp engines.

Undernoted is the new price structure –

Lomond boat for up to 8 hrs £10.00

Lomond boat for 24hrs £15.00

Arran boat for up to 8hrs £15.00

Arran boat for 24hrs £22.00

Engine hire for 8 hrs £30.00 with Arran or Lomond.

Engine hire for 24hrs £45.00 with Arran or Lomond.

Fuel may be purchased from our loch keeper (5 litres usually covers an 8hr outing).

Our electric engine will be available for use with Lomond boats (in calm conditions) at a cost of £25.00 (two batteries will be supplied).

In an effort to curtail bookings where people fail to turn up causing our loch keeper to waste valuable time all internet/phone bookings will be required to pay a £10.00 pay pal deposit which will be non returnable if you do not turn up. Of course if you do the deposit will count against the total payable for your package. It is regrettable that we are forced into this position but due to the number of people booking and not turning up we are left with no other option! Only our loch keeper can handle these bookings! The above prices will take effect from Saturday 19th July 2014

Please note if you are under the influence of alcohol do not even attempt to hire a boat, you will be refused point blank!

Muppet behaviour continues!

I fished yesterday at the bay of plenty and whilst milling around it became clear someone had been there camping. Normally all I would expect to see is the flattened grass imprint left by the tent. Instead there were plastic bottles, wrappers from various sweets, empty beer and soft drink tins, a tea towel and excrement and toilet paper scattered everywhere. These people were not campers, more likely clueless Muppets spoiling the area for those who come later! Appalling behaviour!

The wider world in my view!

Treading in quicksand!

We must all be fools, why else would Lord Snooty reshuffle his cabinet sacking a load of out of touch fools in his own mould and replace them with a large proportion of women who are also out of touch but complete greenhorns for by! Does he think that the bungling of the past can be wiped out by such a shift in personnel! Does he think the new even more incompetent cabinet will attract the female vote just because he has drafted in a few females dunderheids though they are!

Yes indeed he must think we are all out and out fools for mark my words, you ,aint seen nothing yet! There will be bungling aplenty on a completely different level as the rookies try to fathom out just what Tory policy is and what it hopes to achieve. It is also interesting to note that all key positions are now filled by Euro sceptics desperate to have us out of Europe! Yes Lord Snooty has already lost the battle with his own party with the right wingers taking the glory!

However on those booted out i was delighted to see Bungling Bill Hague booted out before he starts a new war somewhere for due to his exploits we very nearly did so on a number of occasions. Bull in a china shop Michael Gove had to be removed as he further alienated the country’s teachers implementing ridiculous “reforms” and driving teachers towards industrial action!

However the repercussions of treating the sacked ministers to public ridicule will come back to bite Lord Snooty. Michael Gove and Owen Patterson specifically will be spitting tacks towards Lord Snooty. They won’t forget being treated in this way and given a chance will plunge the knife into his back! No one likes being sidelined and a sizable group have been so treated.

One has to ask however where is the sense in positively appointing women to cabinet positions. What has happened to the past practice of appointing the person most suited to the position! Surely if this position is taken then be it man or woman the right person will be appointed to the job. Forget positive discrimination, people need to be appointed to the position they are suited for! F0r instance failed daytime TV presenter Esther McVey has been appointed to the cabinet with an obscure function, her past track record suggests she is only suitable for bungling B rated TV shows!

The country will suffer greatly following Snooty’s reshuffle no good can come of it! Lord Snooty is treading in quicksand it is just a matter of time before he sinks into the abyss!

Puppet U turn!

Who would have believed it, I nearly fell over when I heard Puppet Alexander utter the words hesitantly that the bed tax was an unfair tax which punished the weak, disabled and poor effectively punishing people who have a spare room in their houses to serve as accommodation for carers and family members! It seems that now even some right thinking Tories are seeing that this vindictive tax is a dead duck! After all if there are no suitable properties for targeted people to move into where is the logic of such a policy!

The bottom line is that the puppets voted for the bed tax and even when Labour tabled a motion to have it repealed the puppets voted against the motion! This is purely electioneering combined with crass incompetence, a vain attempt to woo back the legions of supporters they have lost to Labour and try and rectify their catalogue of mistakes to date! Yes unable to reach double figures in the opinion polls the puppets are now in panic mode! The electorate however are not so easily fooled, the puppets record is clear! Their tenure was based on lying cheating and more lying to achieve their own aims. As if that was not enough heard on Radio Scotland that Puppet Alexander masterminding a propaganda campaign for the better together lot printed hundreds of thousands of leaflets with an error in them. result the whole lot had to be scrapped! Not a great loss in Con - Dem bungles only lost the country 30 grand!

The puppets have no place in the electoral system; they have nil credibility and now viewed by the electorate as bungling bumptious windbags, no sensible policies and will stop at nothing to achieve their self centred aims! A vote for a puppet is even worse than voting for a Tory. Let’s get these puppets out!

All doom and gloom!

Isis warring with other factions in Iraq, Israel pounding the living daylights out of Gaza and Russia absolutely denying any part in the bringing down of the Malaysian airliner. Not to mention Syria and Afghanistan! All these events leading to a catastrophic loss of life. It seems we never learn with all the past wars making us no wiser! Thank god bungling Bill Hague is now out of the equation or we would be in a real pickle. These events however are nothing to do with us and particularly in the case of Russia we should steer well clear not going beyond economic sanctions!

I could write for days on the above however we should offer any assistance we can to peacemaking/relief efforts but it should stop there! Of course events may seriously escalate and we could be drawn in, what a pity then to find ourselves under the rule of the biggest load of incompetent fools the country has ever had the misfortune to endure!

Those who would destroy us!

Photo 01- A sure sign of summer fragrant and delicate the Dog Rose.
Those who would destroy us!

Regarding the recent horrific events discovered on our lochs we can now report that with the assistance of the police and bailiffs from the River Tweed Commission new measures to combat these fools are now in place. It would be inappropriate to elaborate further on this as the thieves probably read this page.

We are also delighted to welcome back Aaron on a can do will do basis, he has been appointed as one of the club bailiffs to further strengthen our enforcement team! I received an interesting e mail yesterday regarding a river in Ireland where wholesale netting was taking place, and the fish butchered on site, in essence the same that was happening here. Click the link to read about the fish thieves -

Fraser Patterson’s report on his week on the loch.

It has become and rightly so, increasingly viewed by members of the club as a barometer year on year of how well the loch is fishing. Yes Fraser’s weekly stint twice a year gives us a very important record of just how the fish in our loch are doing. Have a look below and see how Fraser fared in his week. He did say the midges were absolutely intolerable and note the 3lbs 4oz Eel not the biggest from the loch by a long chalk but a cracker nevertheless!

So as you can see i had a good week with plenty of good fish. The best best day was on the Saturday out on the boat fly fishing if i had got all the fish i raised i would have had about 10 at least, every bit that we tried where there was a weed bed i touched a fish and a lot of these were on but they come towards you so quickly  you can’t keep a tight line and they get off but great sport none the less.

I caught small perch at most of the bits i camped at but not as many as i normally catch and as usual it was really the last couple of hours of day light.

I had a few eels on worm when perch fishing but Steven and me were bothered a little by them Friday/Saturday as we were using softer baits for pike. I never normally get bothered by them pike fishing.

All the more reason to redouble our efforts to catch the fish thieves who are trying to destroy our wild fishery! Many thanks Fraser, this information is invaluable and much appreciated!

Muppet update!

We have heard nothing further from the Muppets who damaged our boat last week, I received a few e mails regarding their shocking behaviour and all were supportive of the ban dished out to them! Joining the likes of Mr CL, Mr Kens and half a dozen other half wits they are no longer welcome on our loch! These people who end up embarrassing themselves and in many cases cost the club money have to be dealt with by use of heavy penalties! Our work to continually root out these Muppet’s will continue unabated until the message gets through – No Muppets welcome here!

Another real angler!

Yesterday overhearing a conversation between Mr Xxxxx and an angler from Blackpool coming up in a fortnight, I was delighted by what was said! The angler not having fished for Pike before was wondering if anyone could give him a few tips on angling for Pike. Mr Xxxxx replied telling him to come up and he would personally take him to a good location and spend a few hours teaching him the basic principles necessary for safe Pike angling its the least we expect from our officials!
Damage to our boats!

Occasionally our boats/engines do get damaged and of course it is the club who has to pick up the cost of repair. We all know accidents can happen and if you inform us of such damage which clearly was accidental invariably we will not pursue the matter further! By informing us of damage we have the opportunity to rectify that damage before next hiring it out! If however there is clear evidence of wilful damage whether caused by carelessness or incompetence and you have not informed us we will pursue you!

We are an angling club with finite resources; as such we expect those who hire our equipment to treat that equipment with care and respect! If any piece of our equipment gets damaged during your hire please do not abscond and leave our equipment unattended just let us know we do not bite!

Photo 03 - Don't know what it is but moths love it!

The wider world in my view!

I smell a rat!

I was quite taken aback later on in the week to hear Lord Snooty along with Puppet Clegg pronounce that emergency measures were to be rushed through parliament to stop records of phone calls, internet and e mails being destroyed following a directive from the European Commission in April allowing for the destruction of this data. Lord Snooty was most emphatic that the emergency powers were for this purpose only and was not his snooper’s charter in disguise!

Yes Lord Snooty if elected (God forbid!) plans to introduce a bill to allow agencies to snoop on Joe Public at their whim!  At present only if the authorities have good reason to suspect someone of severe wrongdoing can they do this! Under Lord Snooty’s proposed bill you and I may be subject to an intrusion of privacy whenever some twisted public official decides it is warranted!

Every person who reads the Morning Star who is a trade union official will be put under immediate and sustained surveillance and to what end? This is currently a free country where we are all entitled to our views without interference from the authorities! Just like in North Korea the walls of our houses will have ears and privacy will become a thing of the past!

Given Lord Snooty’s usual level of bungling then the delay from April until now is understandable it is in line with previous unfettered bungling! However looking at the history of Lord Snooty and Puppet Clegg it can clearly be seen that in addition to the quality of persistent bungling, blatant lying is right up there! This is what makes me very wary of Snooty’s motives trying to hoodwink parliament to get his way! There was a huge amount of time for these proposed measures to be debated properly; one has to ask why it has been delayed!

I will be looking closely for the words of Labour MP Tom Watson who sees Lord Snooty in the same light as me and is well versed in tackling con men and charlatans! The bottom line is that these fools do not inspire confidence they are completely untrustworthy lying toads! I will be monitoring the passage of this “emergency bill” very closely to see what transpires!

Good people stigmatised!

Yes the unified strike this week of public sector workers saw nearly one million people taking to the streets to protest at the unceasing bungling by the con-Dems, resulting in a huge drop in living standards for them! Decent genuine people, teachers and other public sector workers forced on to the streets to try and convince this government of Ninnies their direction is completely wrong and injurious to the working classes!

I despair when I see events such as these, people with no other choice than to withdraw their labour to try and get their point across to a non listening government. A government of fools comprising of Bullingdon boys, bored housewives and university graduates who couldn’t get a job! People so far removed from the society that you and I live in, people who can fall back on their bank balances or trust funds, people who don’t know what ALDI & Lidl are because they don’t have to count the pennies like the majority of us do! These charlatans know nothing of what the working man has to endure under their ineptitude!

Yes the Con-Dems have been bleating following the strike that the children of hardworking families have been affected by the industrial action! What they should have said was that those children were affected primarily by Con-Dem incompetence! Had these fools entered into meaningful conciliatory talks with these groups then there would have been no need for industrial action.

Lord Snooty has made it clear that if he gets elected at the next election he will seek to further curtail the abilities of trades union to take industrial action! The ultimate tool to bring selectively deaf upper class snobs to the negotiating table is and always has been the withdrawal of labour, this must never change! The mistake the strikers made was the duration of the industrial action was far too short!

The Con – Dems tried to stigmatise these decent people pushed into a corner given no choice in what they could do. What they did succeed in doing was to further portray this government as a bag of fools completely out of touch with the real struggle to exist! Only when these capitalist fools are hit in the pocket will it register that the plebs means business! The right to take industrial action is part of the working man’s armoury this must never change!

The end is near!

Yes the World Cup ends tonight with Argentina facing Germany in the final. The matches last week did not fail to surprise none more so than Brazil vs. Germany midweek. Oh the Germans were good but Brazil played like a group of schoolboys, they completely fell to pieces! Last night against Holland they were again completely demoralised and lacklustre never looked like putting up a fight! It has left a nation in mourning, Christ the redeemer I am sure will be spouting real tears! Probably the end of Phil Scolari as manager, but they will recover in time! On tonight’s match if Messe shines Argentina will have it, if not then it’s Germany. COME ON ARGENTINA!

News just in or Muppets in action!

Photo 01 - How they returned our boat!
News just in or Muppets in action!

My suspicions were aroused yesterday when a Lomond boat crossed my fishing lines barely 10 feet from the shore and 3 bewildered looking lads apologised. I had earlier watched them through binoculars pushing and heaving our boat on to the shore. They were here to “fish” but didn’t seem to have much of a clue!

It was no surprise then to hear from Keith today that they had abandoned our boat at the March wood and bailed out pronto leaving our lifejackets oars and boat completely unattended! The result, Mr Xxxxx had to row over to the wood collect their lifejackets/oars and tow the boat back to the boathouse. However as you can see from the photo they did not return the boat in a satisfactory condition as you can see the steel runner one eighth of an inch thick bent as though it was foil. Mr Xxxxx impressed upon them the need to phone him or come to his caravan in the event of a problem. When quizzed as to why they did not do this their excuses were oh the phone died and we couldn’t remember where the caravan was even though where they were camping the caravan was in plain sight!

I contacted them and said that a payment of £20.00 would cover the cost of a new runner, it would not however cover fitting it or Mr Xxxxx’s time clearing up their mess or the loss of fishing time for those who have to deal with the result of their ineptitude. They chose not to settle with us stating that the runner was falling off before the hire and that the impact that bent the runner was “light” remember thats eighth of an inch steel bar! Oh and as a matter of fact three of our boats including their one have had the runners refitted with new stainless steel screws only two months ago

Photo 02 they said it was light impact!!

They had not the courage to admit to their failings instead preferring to squeal and squirm like immature schoolboys! We will no longer tolerate this Muppet behaviour, decent right thinking anglers will now be lumbered with the possible inconvenience of paying a Pay pal deposit on hiring an engine or boat and in part it is down to the three fools below. Yes they phoned to say they would be late arriving on Saturday with various estimated times of arrival having Mr Xxxxx hanging around for ages, it’s just not on! The three involved were

Dylan Clark Duff Street Edinburgh and his two accomplices Austen Wood and Darren Forbes. Mr Xxxxx’s recommendation that they be barred from fishing on the lochs has met with unequivocal approval and they are now barred from fishing on our lochs indefinitely! We are to pass their names to other fisheries in the area as is our practice with all barred anglers!

Contact details updated.

Due to signal problems the methods employed to contact Keith our loch keeper have changed. The new details are as follows –

Loch keeper contact

Photo 03 The barrier at the Graveyard with the spars removed!
The Muppet season continues unabated!

Travelling up to the loch yesterday I felt something was not right in the graveyard area but I could not put my finger on it! Later that day I pulled into the lay by opposite and it struck me immediately what was wrong. Some Muppets had pulled the spars off the barrier that prevents access to this area by vehicles!

I took a walk down to the loch side and sure enough at the edges of a fire site lay small pieces of the spars that had been burned! Yes Muppets desperate for firewood had ripped off the spars and burned them no doubt to make a fire of massive proportions! These people could not be described as anything other than Muppets, what sane individual would destroy the structure belonging to someone else! We had a quiet spell but they have again reared their heads. School drop outs, wasters, social scroungers probably all three! Such a shame ordinary daily living is contaminated by these dodo’s!

The fightback begins!

Regular readers will know that we are under severe threat by the actions of unknown individual’s intent on decimating our fish stocks. It is clear that the people employing gill nets will stop at nothing! These people posess no sporting ethics, have no regard for the conservation of fish stocks and think nothing of entering on to the property of others to achieve their aims!

We now have three agents on the lochside who are appalled by what has taken place and pledged their support to us in combating these fish thieves. This is a massive help to us as the committee are dispersed as far away as Motherwell we would also ask that any member or visitor seeing what they think may be illegal activity to contact us immediately!

It will take a coordinated effort from the above and the enforcing authorities to deal with this problem, it is quite frankly too great a problem to be dealt with by the usual suspects! Our very future as an angling club hangs in the balance, we really do need your help!

The contact details for Mr Xxxxx our loch keeper are as above.

Choosing a fishing guide!

Following last week’s article on fishing guides I have received two enquiries from people seeking the services of such people they asked if we could recommend a good long established guide and I was happy to oblige on a one time basis. However I have more to do with my time to spend it guiding people to guides! Consequently our page “choosing a fishing guide” will be relaunched as a reference point for people seeking the services of a guide and the things to look out for when selecting one. It will be a much milder version of our original site as the changes we called for have now taken place.

Trout scale sampling.

We have now achieved the required number of samples to go forward for the Trout sexing study being facilitated by the Tweed Trout and Grayling Initiative TTGI where we will learn the sex ration of our population from the sample collected. Although we are among the first to reach the required level the scales will not be sent off until the end of the season for financial reasons.

Boat pricing & booking.

Due to continued problems with regard to the booking of our boats/engines the committee will consider this week ways to improve the process. In some instances our loch keeper wastes hours of his time waiting on anglers who do not even turn up! this type of angler as usual spoils it for the decent ones see above! With our boat pricing our prices are quite simply from an earlier age and the money we generate does not even cover depreciation servicing and repair of our engines! Mr Xxxxx has kindly carried out a comparison between ourselves and other fisheries and the committee will consider this data midweek.

Places to stay St Mary’s Loch

Here we will outline some places to stay on the banks of the loch if you fancy stepping up a gear from camping.

In alphabetical order

Capper Kirk

Set in an imposing location on the side of a towering hill lies Capper Kirk which was originally the villages church. The host Ian and Barbara will be well known to many as the previous occupants of the Glen cafe which they ran for a good few years. You can be assured of a good welcome coupled with great food and excellent accommodation and as is tradition with these hosts nothing is too much trouble. The views from the accommodation are absolutely stunning and if it is a relaxing break you are seeking then this establishment must be on your list of potential spots to stay. If fishing is on your list of things to do just ask Ian and he will be only too pleased to assist. For further information please click the link below –

St Mary’s Loch bed & Breakfast.

A new addition to the area on the B&B from Mick and Julie have expanded from offering the “Half House” accommodation to also offering bed & breakfast in the “White House”. Tastefully refurbished with all mod cons the accommodation will please all outlooks and as with the hosts above customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance. The accommodation also offers the most excellent views of the stunning scenery and if it’s fishing information or a session on the loch then Mick will take care of this for you. A great base camp for anglers and those seeking peace and tranquillity. For information on the Half House accommodation click –

Tibbies Shiels Inn.

Steeped in history the rustic inn offers B&B and longer stays accommodation. Alastair Moody will see to it that you are made welcome and that all your needs are taken care of. The centre of the community it’s all going on here on the banks of the loch. There is usually live entertainment at the weekend so check out the website to see what’s coming up!
I know all these people and take my word for it they will go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one!

The wider world in my view!

What is to be done?

Yes things are coming to a head! The NHS the most envied health service in the world is on the point of crumbling as the Con-Dems sneak in private contractors earning unparalleled money for their pals! Bristol council are among many who are now asking the public to tend to cemetery’s and parks. The country’s roads increasingly crumble away with cash strapped councils paying only lip service to the gargantuan task! Our libraries are closing, refuse collections cut, leisure facilities slashed, police services cut, charity funding wiped out, social initiatives dropped, health and educational inequality bring us ever closer to equalling that of Brazil!. I could go on and on but in a nutshell everything that has been built up to an acceptable level is either being cut or completely removed!

The Con-Dems of course instead of tackling the problems merely cut expenditure  and succeed only in making matters worse! Our standard of living is plummeting our support services failing and resultantly the verve of the country is diminishing! We all realise that there is a limited pot of money to carry out the improvements needed but we also need to be aware that the UK is a very wealthy country!

I’ve spoke on this before; it is the distribution of wealth in this country that is flawed with the rich owning a disproportionate amount of the country’s wealth and couple this with governmental bungling then it is easy to see where the money is squandered!  As a population we need to decide if we are content with a system that allows the rich to get richer and the rest of us getting only the crumbs off the table! Do bankers need million pound bonuses even when they screw up as happened in 2008. Is Wayne Rooney worth £300,000/week? Similarly we need to examine whether we do need armaments such as Trident which costs us billions every year!

The capitalist system has reached its natural end, now unequivocally highlighted as a system spawning only greed and self interest! The seeds sown by Butcher Thatcher have now sprouted to blight us in the present day. It is not just the Con-Dems, previous administration spout the same garbage the difference with the Con-Dems is merely their ability to perpetually bungle, waste and severely exacerbate the problem!

A completely new system of government is called for, but do not expect any politician to propose this there is too much self interest at play here! This will not happen as much of the population have been corrupted, hungry for more material wealth at the expense of others. This is a source of great angst for me, dog eat dog is now the byword of our existence! Realistically nothing is going to change as those who have will protect their standing at all costs and those who have not are devoid of the power required to effect change.

There is a ray of light for us Scots in that independence offers a distance along the road to greater equality! It will not bring about an immediate change merely start us on the road but it is at least a start! Staying with the current situation will see the rich/poor divide widen further. There are a lot of unknowns in seeking independence but in my book these are far outweighed by the despicable certainties of staying as part of the UK! This is the biggest decision facing Scots in hundreds of years it is also our only opportunity to see a fairer and more prosperous society!

Vote for Independence!

World cup!

Brazil vs Colombia what a super match, football as it should be, contrast that game with France vs Germany two wooden teams incapable of stimulating any interest whatsoever. Yes there is good bad and indifferent play to see here, I for one will miss it when it’s over!

Next week Fraser Patterson’s report on his week on the loch.
